About the director

Manish Acharya (1967-2010) was a talented director and writer, who divided his time between Mumbai and New York.

A multiple award winner from the the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film program where he received an MFA in Film Directing, Manish also had a degree in Physics & Computer Studies from Grinnell College and a Masters in Industrial Relations from Iowa State University. Before NYU, he was the founding member of a successful software company “Microstrategy” that went public in 1998.

At NYU Manish directed three short films. His film PARTNER won several awards for acting and editing, as well as the Carl Lerner Award for a Film with Social Significance. His MFA thesis film LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS won the Best Feature Film award at the 65th Annual First Run Film Festival and the 2006 Best Feature at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, among others.

A highly acclaimed director, (watch what his film fraternity had to say about him in “Remembering Manish”), Manish was to direct a Hindi language feature film with Indian actress Priyanka Chopra in 2011, and was next planning to direct his script “TEEN MACCHLI ZERO PAANI”.

Manish was known and will always be remembered for his wit, intelligence, humour, and his generous, good nature. He is survived by his two sons Malhar & Aman, and by his wife, painter Dhruvi Acharya.
